Quick answer: To memorize the Quran online as a beginner, start with the short surahs of Juz 'Amma, memorize a small new portion daily (Sabaq), revise recent portions (Sabqi) and older portions (Manzil), and recite to a live teacher who corrects your Tajweed. Consistency matters more than quantity.
Do I need to read fluently before starting Hifz?
You should be able to read Arabic letters correctly. If not, begin with Noorani Qaida and basic Tajweed first, so you memorize the words correctly from day one. Fixing a memorized mistake is much harder than learning it right.
A simple beginner plan
Step 1: Start with Juz 'Amma. The short, familiar surahs build confidence and the habit of daily memorization.
Step 2: Memorize a small new portion daily (Sabaq). For beginners this may be a few lines. Repeat it out loud until you can recite it without looking.
Step 3: Revise what you learned recently (Sabqi). Recite the last several days' portions every day so they settle.
Step 4: Revise older portions (Manzil). A rotating revision cycle keeps everything you have memorized strong.
Step 5: Recite to your teacher. A live teacher catches mistakes you cannot hear yourself and keeps you accountable.
